New electric hatchback combines spacious interiors, advanced safety, and practical mobility for Filipino drivers

GAC International Philippines has officially launched the all-new GAC AION UT, a fully electric hatchback designed around a unique human-first philosophy that prioritizes comfort, space, and everyday usability over purely machine-driven design.

Unveiled on June 8, the AION UT enters the Philippine market carrying the philosophy of “Man Maximum, Machine Minimum,” a concept that seeks to maximize interior living space while minimizing the mechanical footprint of the vehicle

The result is what GAC describes as “big car energy” in a compact urban-friendly package.

Designed Around People, Not Just Technology

As electric vehicles become increasingly technology-driven, GAC believes many modern designs risk losing the warmth and human connection that motorists seek.

The AION UT was developed to challenge that trend.

The project benefited from the guidance of GAC International Chief Technological Officer Masato Katsumata, a veteran automotive engineer known for his decades-long career with Toyota and involvement in the development of several global vehicle models, including the current Toyota Camry.

For Katsumata, the AION UT was more than a technical project.

He described the vehicle as being similar to a “daughter,” reflecting the care and attention given to ensuring the hatchback delivers a practical, comfortable, and emotionally engaging ownership experience.

Rather than relying solely on artificial intelligence and data-driven design, the vehicle embraces a balanced aesthetic influenced by Milanese design concepts, creating a stylish and approachable EV tailored for modern lifestyles.

Spacious Cabin in a Compact Footprint

One of the AION UT’s standout features is its class-leading 2,750mm wheelbase, which allows the vehicle to provide interior space typically found in larger SUVs.

Despite its compact dimensions, the cabin comfortably accommodates passengers up to two meters tall while offering flexible seating and cargo arrangements.

The interior also incorporates numerous storage compartments and practical solutions designed to reduce clutter and improve everyday usability.

According to GAC, the goal is to transform the vehicle into a mobile sanctuary where drivers and passengers can enjoy a cleaner and more relaxing environment.

Built for Philippine Driving Conditions

The AION UT combines comfort with advanced electric vehicle technology designed to address the needs of Filipino motorists.

At the heart of the vehicle is GAC’s proprietary Magazine Battery technology, recognized globally for its safety performance, including resistance to fire, water, and high temperatures.

Additional safety features include:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • 360-Degree Surround View Camera
  • Reverse Mis-Acceleration Mitigation System
  • Multiple airbags
  • High-strength submarine-grade steel body structure

The vehicle also utilizes specialized low rolling resistance tires and advanced cabin noise isolation systems to maximize efficiency and ride comfort.

A full charge can deliver approximately 400 to 500 kilometers of driving range, while fast charging can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes.

The GAC AION UT is available in several exterior color options, including:

  • Champs-Elysees Beige

Why It Matters

By combining spacious design, advanced safety systems, and practical range capabilities, the AION UT aims to make electric mobility more accessible and relevant for Filipino families and urban commuters.
