Fortinet has taken a major step in cybersecurity by enhancing FortiOS with quantum-safe security features. This update addresses the growing risk of quantum-powered attacks on today’s encryption.
Quantum computers can break encryption standards at speeds never seen before. Cybercriminals are already storing encrypted data now to decrypt later when quantum computing becomes available. Industries like telecom, finance, government and healthcare are prime targets because they handle sensitive data with long-term value.
With FortiOS 7.6, Fortinet enables organizations to protect against harvest-now, decrypt-later (HNDL) threats. The update supports:
- Post-quantum cryptography (PQC): Includes NIST-approved ML-KEM and emerging algorithms like BIKE, HQC and Frodo
- Quantum key distribution (QKD): Securely shares encryption keys, detects tampering
- Algorithm stacking: Strengthens protection by combining multiple encryption methods
- Hybrid mode: Lets organizations shift gradually from legacy to quantum-safe encryption
- Simplified interface: Makes it easier to configure and manage these new features
These features are included at no additional cost for FortiGate NGFW and Fortinet Secure SD-WAN customers.
Fortinet continues to lead in converging networking and security. By building quantum-safe tools into its unified operating system, Fortinet helps future-proof networks without compromising performance.
