foodpanda and DSWD Walang Gutom Kitchen work together to combat hunger through grocery donations and community meals
foodpanda Philippines has joined the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to fight hunger through the Walang Gutom Kitchen (WGK) under the Pag-abot Program. The partnership forms part of foodpanda’s “Let’s do our PAUrt” initiative and supports Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
Through this effort, foodpanda provided groceries and meals to the Walang Gutom Kitchen via pandamart, its grocery arm. The initiative also involved foodpanda riders, allowing them to deliver donations and see how their work helps communities in need.
“At foodpanda, we believe that access to nutritious food is a basic human right,” said Lew Lopez, Director of Public Relations and Public Affairs at foodpanda. “Supporting DSWD is a step toward ensuring that no Filipino goes hungry while uplifting communities in need.”
Lopez added that the company aims to make its social impact more participatory. “We wanted to maximize the resources we have, not just by providing assistance, but by helping our delivery partners understand the value of their work. It’s a meaningful way to empower everyone involved.”
The Walang Gutom Kitchen serves breakfast at 6 a.m. and lunch at 11 a.m. daily, feeding about 600 people per day. Each batch receives nutritious meals and groceries that can last for their daily needs.
Ramil B. Mapoy, Social Welfare Officer of DSWD, said the partnership strengthens their mission. “These collaborations ensure inclusivity in addressing involuntary hunger. They help us continue serving those who need it most.”
DSWD Chief Administrative Officer Atty. John Dwight B. Cruz added that corporate social responsibility plays a vital role. “Hunger and malnutrition remain major challenges. Efforts like foodpanda’s make our work possible.”
This partnership shows how private companies can help government initiatives reach more communities, fostering social responsibility and sustainable development.
