In a groundbreaking exhibition that bridges cultures and imagination, Filipino pop appropriation artist, Sean Go brings his explosive solo show “Gods and Monsters” to YOD Gallery, offering Filipino art enthusiasts and expatriates a transformative artistic experience that transcends traditional boundaries.

Starting December 14, 2024 at YOD Gallery’s prestigious Osaka space, the exhibition is a visceral exploration of mythology, pop culture, and urban energy. Inspired by the legendary Jean-Michel Basquiat’s raw expressionism, Go creates a vibrant visual narrative that intertwines ancient folklore with contemporary urban landscapes.

Drawing from both Filipino and Japanese mythological traditions, the artworks feature extraordinary beings that challenge viewers’ perceptions. Dragons with serpentine forms clash with iconic monsters like Godzilla, while mythical tigers prowl through dynamic urban scenes. Each piece becomes a powerful metaphor for the complex duality of human nature – our capacity for creation and destruction, fear and wonder.

Art lovers are invited to immerse themselves in this extraordinary exhibition. The show offers a unique opportunity to experience how contemporary art can bridge cultural narratives, presenting a visual dialogue that resonates across geographical and cultural boundaries.

YOD Gallery, with its rich 64-year history of supporting innovative artists, provides the perfect platform for this groundbreaking exhibition. Located in the Terrada Art Complex in Tennozu, Tokyo, the gallery continues its legacy of introducing cutting-edge artistic expressions to global audiences.

“This exhibition is more than an art show – it’s an invitation to explore the thin line between gods and monsters, between imagination and reality,” says Go. “It’s a celebration of the mythical creatures that inhabit our collective consciousness, whether from Filipino folklore or global pop culture.”

Exhibition Details:

  • Exhibition: “Gods and Monsters”
  • Artist: Sean Go
  • Venue: YOD Editions
  • Location: Oimatsu Bldg. 2F, 4-5-2 Nishitenma, Kita-ku, Osaka, JAPAN 530-0047
  • Dates: December 14, 2024 to January 17, 2025

Patrons of the art, cultural explorers, and those seeking a unique artistic experience in Japan, “Gods and Monsters” promises to be an unforgettable journey into the realm of imagination.
