Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala joins Alternativa Film Festival 2026 as part of the selection committee
Filipina filmmaker Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala joins the 2026 Alternativa Film Festival Selection Committee, marking another milestone for Philippine cinema on the global stage.

The Alternativa Film Festival, returning to Colombia in 2026, celebrates independent voices and films that challenge conventions. It highlights stories from underrepresented communities and strengthens cultural ties between Asia and Latin America.

Kara joins a distinguished group of global industry leaders who will curate films that showcase independent talent and bold storytelling. Known for her work as a documentary and impact producer, Oscars jury and AMPAS member, and president of the Filipino Documentary Society, she brings Filipino perspective to the festival’s diverse committee.
“It’s a true honor to return as a Selector for Alternativa. I’m excited to encounter the bold visions and urgent voices of filmmakers who reimagine the world through their craft,” Kara shared.
The festival, organized with inDrive, continues to empower storytellers beyond the screen. At the Bogotá Audiovisual Market, Alternativa and inDrive hosted a session on boosting film visibility and impact. A new Residency for Impact Campaigns, led by Nodo Sur, will also support six Latin American films in building outreach strategies.
Beyond cinema, inDrive is extending its advocacy through the Aurora Tech Award 2026, now open for applications. The global award honors women founders leading technology startups that drive positive change.
Eligible startups must be founded and led by women, under five years old, and at the pre-seed or seed stage. Winners will receive $50,000, $20,000, and $15,000, along with mentorship and investor access. Applications close on November 12, 2025, at www.auroratechaward.com.
Shaerine Irwina Kaur, inDrive Communications Manager for SEA, said these initiatives show inDrive’s dedication to uplifting Filipino talent and women innovators worldwide.
