Netflix has unveiled the teaser trailer for Last Samurai Standing, alongside new cast additions, ahead of its November 13 global release. The Japanese battle royale series has already secured a slot at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, fueling talk that it may reshape the Japanese drama scene.
The teaser showcases intense combat, grounded performances, and authentic details from costumes to weaponry. Filmed with both CG and practical effects, the series aims to deliver visceral action sequences rooted in the Meiji era.
Set in late 19th century Kyoto, the story follows 292 warriors, including Shujiro Saga played by Junichi Okada, who gather at Tenryuji Temple for a deadly contest. Each carries a wooden tag, and survival hinges on stealing tags and racing to Tokyo. Only one will emerge victorious.
The ensemble cast features Junichi Okada, Kaya Kiyohara, Masahiro Higashide, Shota Sometani, Taichi Saotome, Riho Yoshioka, Kazunari Ninomiya, Hiroshi Tamaki, Hideaki Ito, and more. Newly announced cast members include Gaku Hamada, Taiiku Okazaki, Arata Iura, Tetsushi Tanaka, and Ayumu Nakajima. Their roles add further intrigue to the sprawling narrative.
