Disney is returning to original storytelling with its newly announced animated film, Hexed, set for release in November 2026. The reveal took place at Destination D23, where Walt Disney Animation Studios confirmed that the film will focus on a fresh story instead of a sequel.
Hexed centers on a teenage boy and his Type-A mother as they uncover the boy’s hidden magical powers. This discovery draws them into a secret world of magic and forces them to navigate their bond in extraordinary circumstances. The film highlights themes of identity, belonging, and family relationships, which have long been core elements of Disney’s animated legacy.
The movie will be directed by Disney veterans Josie Trinidad, known for her work as co-head of story on Zootopia, and Jason Hand, who co-directed Moana 2. Their combined experience promises to bring a mix of emotional depth and fantasy spectacle to the film.
With Hexed, Disney aims to capture the same audience connection achieved by original titles like Encanto and Raya and the Last Dragon. Fans can expect a mix of magic, heart, and adventure when the film hits theaters next year.
