Century Tuna’s “Saving Our Seas” Rallies 8,200 Volunteers Nationwide for Cleaner Oceans

Saving Our Seas grows into a nationwide cleanup movement

Century Tuna has taken a bold step forward with the third year of its award-winning “Saving Our Seas” campaign, uniting more than 8,200 volunteers across six coastal sites in the Philippines. What started as a small cleanup in Batangas in 2023 has now become a nationwide movement for marine conservation and plastic circular economy.

This year’s International Coastal Cleanup Day saw volunteers from Manila, Batangas, Subic, Davao, Zamboanga, and General Santos City working together to collect a total of 1,386 kilograms of plastic waste. This is a strong increase from the 357 kilograms collected in 2024.

Volunteers came from diverse groups such as local government units, Porto Novo, The Asri, Pier Uno divers, the Philippine Marine Corps, Century Tuna Superbods, employees of Century Pacific Food Inc. (CPFI), and community partners. The growth in participation reflects a growing awareness of marine conservation and the collective responsibility to safeguard the seas.

According to CPFI Vice President and General Manager of the Branded Tuna Division, Carlo Endaya, the campaign is more than a one-day cleanup. It also raises awareness and creates sustainable solutions through programs like HOPE’s Aling Tindera, where collected plastics are transformed into livelihood opportunities.

Friends of HOPE Inc. shared that the initiative has made a significant impact on Mabini, Batangas, with 29 sites benefiting from cleanups and waste management programs. Century Tuna also partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the City of Manila, SBMA, and several brands including Shakey’s, Vita Coco, Beach Hut, and Peri-Peri to amplify the campaign.

Since its launch, “Saving Our Seas” has collected over 100 metric tons of plastic waste. The campaign is now positioned as one of the country’s strongest private-led marine conservation movements, building communities, supporting livelihoods, and pushing for a healthier environment.

With partnerships and community support, Century Tuna’s “Saving Our Seas” continues to expand its reach and strengthen its impact, reaffirming the company’s role as a key advocate for protecting Philippine seas.
