The Bank of the Philippine Islands, through BPI Foundation, has partnered with the Philippine Science High School Foundation to bring practical financial education closer to young Filipinos through the FinEd Unboxed program.

The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of agreement signed at the Philippine Science High School Main Campus, making PSHS the third partner school of BPI Foundation under the FinEd Unboxed program in 2026. The initiative reinforces the Foundation’s commitment to promoting financial inclusion through collaborations with leading educational institutions nationwide.

Building Financial Skills Early

FinEd Unboxed positions schools as platforms for multiplying financial education by equipping educators and young learners with structured, practical, and age-appropriate financial literacy modules.

The program combines capacity-building sessions with practical learning tools, including the Breakthrough App, an interactive platform that allows participants to apply money management concepts in real-life situations. Participants also gain access to modules covering saving, budgeting, credit management, investing, insurance, retirement planning, and fraud prevention.

Through the partnership, approximately 3,000 students, educators, and student leaders are expected to benefit over the next three years.

Preparing Future Leaders Beyond the Classroom

BPI Foundation Executive Director Carmina Marquez said financial education creates impact that extends beyond schools and empowers young people to become catalysts for better financial decisions within their families and communities.

The Philippine Science High School Foundation also highlighted the importance of teaching financial responsibility at an early age, noting that many students begin managing their own money while still in their early teens. The partnership aims to help students develop the knowledge and discipline needed to save, invest, and make informed financial decisions for the future.

Financial Literacy as an Essential Life Skill

As digital transactions and financial products become increasingly accessible, financial literacy is becoming a critical life skill for young Filipinos.

By introducing financial education in schools, programs like FinEd Unboxed help students develop practical skills that complement their academic achievements. Beyond learning how to manage money, the initiative seeks to cultivate confidence, discipline, and responsible decision-making among future leaders.

The collaboration also reflects a growing recognition that preparing students for real-world challenges includes equipping them with the financial knowledge needed to navigate adulthood successfully.
