The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has taken a bold step to prioritize employee well-being with the launch of its Cancer Care Leave Program. This makes BPI one of the first banks in the Philippines to offer a dedicated benefit for employees diagnosed with cancer.
The program provides 15 days of non-cash, non-cumulative paid leave each year for employees undergoing cancer treatment. The leave may be taken consecutively or on separate days within the year of entitlement. It serves as an added support once sick leave credits are fully used. Employees only need to submit a medical certificate from a licensed oncologist, with approval from their supervisor and endorsement from Human Resources.
BPI’s Chief Human Resources Officer Gina Eala said, “We want our employees to feel supported during their most difficult times. This benefit gives them space to focus on healing and recovery, knowing they are not alone.”
Beyond this new program, BPI continues to provide comprehensive healthcare support such as medical insurance, dread disease coverage, and access to MindYou, a digital mental health platform.
The Cancer Care Leave Program also aligns with BPI’s commitment to the Working with Cancer Pledge, a global initiative backed locally by Publicis Groupe PH, AC Health with Healthway Cancer Care Hospital, and the People Management Association of the Philippines. The movement aims to build inclusive workplaces and fight stigma around cancer.
Through this initiative, BPI reinforces its commitment to employee care, creating a workplace where compassion and well-being remain at the core.
