Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona Return in the First Trailer for “Shrek 5”

The swamp is calling once again. DreamWorks Animation has released the first trailer for “Shrek 5,” bringing back one of animation’s most beloved families for another magical comedy adventure.

The upcoming film reunites Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, who return to voice Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona, respectively.

Joining them is Emmy Award-winning actress Zendaya, who voices Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona.

Fans also get their first introduction to Felicia’s brothers, Fergus and Farkle, voiced by Marcello Hernandez and Skyler Gisondo.

A New Chapter for a Beloved Franchise

The original Shrek debuted in 2001 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, blending fairy-tale adventures with humor that appealed to both children and adults.

Over the years, the franchise expanded into sequels, spin-offs, and one of the most recognizable animated universes in modern cinema.

With Shrek 5, DreamWorks is bringing the characters back for a new generation while giving longtime fans another opportunity to revisit the world of Far Far Away.

The first trailer hints at another adventure filled with comedy, family moments, and the franchise’s trademark self-aware humor.

Familiar Voices Behind the Characters

The film is directed by Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn, both longtime contributors to the Shrek franchise.

Vernon was part of the directing team behind Shrek 2 and has also voiced fan-favorite character Gingy, the Gingerbread Man, throughout the series.

Dohrn previously worked as a writer and artist on Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third, served as Head of Story for Shrek Forever After, and voiced the character Rumpelstiltskin.

The film is produced by returning producer Gina Shay, who produced Shrek Forever After, and Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination and producer of blockbuster franchises including Despicable Me, Minions, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Brad Ableson serves as co-director.

Zendaya Joins the Swamp Family

Among the biggest reveals in the trailer is Zendaya’s casting as Felicia, one of Shrek and Fiona’s children.

The actress has built a diverse film career with projects including the Dune films and Christopher Nolan’s upcoming The Odyssey.

Her addition introduces a fresh voice to the franchise while expanding the story of the now-grown Shrek family.

Back to Far Far Away

More than two decades after the original film changed animated storytelling, Shrek 5 marks the return of characters that have remained popular across generations.

For many fans, the trailer is more than a preview of a new film—it is a nostalgic reunion with characters whose humor, heart, and unconventional fairy-tale adventures have become part of popular culture.
