Yung Kai releases stay with the ocean, i’ll find you as his full-length debut
Breakout Chinese-Canadian indie-pop singer-songwriter yung kai has released his long-awaited debut album, stay with the ocean, i’ll find you, via Flood Division/BMG. The 11-track record is steeped in themes of longing, emotional escapism, and self-discovery, wrapped in lush, cinematic soundscapes that showcase his unique artistry.
“This album is centred around the idea of yearning for someone or something, and the idea of ‘Even if it doesn’t work, I’ll just imagine that it does,’” yung kai explains.
The album features soothing harmonies and lyrical vulnerability, painting vivid portraits of love and connection. Leading the project is the focus track, how do you dance?, a tender reflection on vulnerability and intimacy. “Honestly, I’m very bad at dancing and I thought it would be cute if a girl taught me how to dance,” he shares.
The release follows the sold-out Asia leg of his first-ever headlining world tour, flowers, moon and stars, which covered Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei.
Yung kai first rose to prominence with his viral single blue, which soared to #2 on the Spotify Global Viral Charts and dominated regional charts, reaching #1 in Singapore and Hong Kong. The track later received a remix featuring (G)I-DLE’s MINNIE, further cementing his global reach. With over 2 billion streams and 15 million monthly listeners, he has earned recognition from artists like Wave To Earth and bbno$.
The debut album marks a defining moment in yung kai’s journey. He continues to write, produce, and perform every instrument in his work, underscoring his artistry and independence.
