YouTube unveils AI tools for Shorts and content protection
YouTube just rolled out new AI-powered tools for creators, aiming to make video production faster, easier, and safer. The updates highlight how the platform is racing to keep pace with competitors in the AI space.
The biggest announcement is the integration of Google DeepMind’s Veo 3 video model into YouTube Shorts. This version, called Veo 3 Fast, allows users to generate quick 480p clips with sound directly from their phones. The tool is free and available through the sparkle icon on the YouTube app’s create button. For now, it’s live in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. More countries will follow soon.
YouTube also introduced Edit with AI, a new feature that automatically turns raw clips into a polished first draft. It identifies the best scenes, adds transitions, background music, and even voiceovers in English or Hindi. This tool is currently in testing within YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app.
On the safety side, YouTube is expanding its likeness-detection system to all Partner Program creators. The tool works much like Content ID but focuses on protecting faces from unauthorized AI-generated use. If a video misuses a creator’s likeness, they can flag it and request removal.
These tools mark a major step in YouTube’s push to stay competitive against platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and even OpenAI. For creators, it means more ways to experiment with AI and fewer hurdles in protecting their content and identity.
