YouTube drives creator economy with $100 billion payout
YouTube continues to show why it is the top destination for creators. At its Made on YouTube event, the Google-owned platform revealed it has paid more than $100 billion to creators, artists, and media companies over the past four years.
“YouTube didn’t just create a platform. We built an economy,” CEO Neal Mohan said during the announcement.
The creator economy is growing fast. Creator jobs have increased 7.5 times in recent years. Surveys also show that many young people now view becoming a creator as a top career goal. YouTube has been a major force behind this shift, with consistent payouts and more opportunities for monetization compared to other social platforms.
YouTube is also seeing more earnings shift to TV screens. The number of channels making more than $100,000 from viewers watching on connected TVs rose 45 percent in the last year. This reflects how audiences are consuming long-form and premium creator content like traditional television.
The platform’s expansion into live sports, including broadcasting NFL games, shows its ambition to be more than just a streaming site. It is now a serious player in entertainment and media.
For creators, the message is clear. If you want to make a sustainable career, YouTube still offers the most lucrative path. With billions flowing to creators, the platform remains a central hub of the creator economy.
