YouTube Live adds games, AI tools, and monetization
YouTube is betting big on live streaming. At its Made on YouTube 2025 event, the platform revealed a major overhaul for YouTube Live, rolling out features that directly rival Twitch and TikTok. With more than 30 percent of daily logged-in users watching live content in Q2 2025, YouTube is making its push to dominate the live space.
The updates include:
Playables on Live
Creators can now play more than 75 casual games like Angry Birds Showdown and Cut The Rope while engaging with their audience.
Dual Formats: Vertical and Horizontal
Streams will soon be available in both vertical and horizontal formats at the same time. A unified chat will connect viewers, boosting discoverability across devices.
Live Practice Mode
Streamers can rehearse setups and test new tools without going live, making it easier for creators transitioning into streaming.
React Live
Creators can go live directly in reaction to another ongoing livestream, opening new doors for real-time commentary.
AI-powered Clips
YouTube’s built-in AI will generate highlight clips and Shorts from livestreams, cutting out the need for third-party tools.
New Monetization Options
- Side-by-side ads: Ads play alongside live video, so streams aren’t interrupted.
- Members-only live streams: Streamers can switch broadcasts from free to subscriber-only mid-stream to encourage paid memberships.
These updates show YouTube’s intent to attract both casual creators and professional streamers, giving them tools to engage audiences and monetize in new ways.
