Spotify is adding an in-app messaging feature that lets you share songs, playlists and podcasts directly without switching to another platform.
The new Messages tab, accessible by clicking your profile photo, shows recommended contacts you have interacted with before through playlist collaborations, jams or family plans. You can start a chat from there or by tapping the share button on any piece of content. The tab also serves as a place to revisit ongoing conversations and manage message requests.
Spotify says Messages is meant to complement, not replace, existing sharing options like posting to social media. But for those who find switching apps inconvenient, this offers a smoother alternative.
The rollout begins this week for both free and premium users aged 16 and older. For now, the feature is available only on mobile devices in select markets.
