The Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) has appointed Doris Isubal-Mongaya, founder and CEO of Cebu-based PRWorks Inc., as chair of its Visayas Regional Network. PRSP said the appointment is the first of its kind in the organization’s 69-year history, opening a new channel for regional practitioners to participate in the national public relations community.

The appointment was formalized at SM City Cebu during a gathering that also welcomed new PRSP members from the Visayas. Announced on October 16, 2026, the initiative forms part of “STEWARDING PRSP: Amplifying Voices, Building Trust,” which focuses on regional participation, professional development and responsible communication.

Giving regional practitioners a stronger voice

For communicators working outside Metro Manila, the network aims to create stronger professional connections and improve access to training and industry discussions.

“This expansion into the Visayas is long overdue. I am honored to be part of this regional network expansion, and I am confident it will contribute immensely to developing public relations as a profession and as a career in these economic hubs,” Isubal-Mongaya said.

She brings more than two decades of public relations experience through PRWorks, which serves clients across economic centers in the Visayas and Mindanao. Her work also includes community advocacy and disaster relief, guided by her belief that “the best PR uplifts lives.”

Beyond agency work, Isubal-Mongaya serves as a volunteer director for Safe Water For Every Child Philippines, supporting the deployment of water filtration systems to disaster-affected communities and public schools without potable water.

PRSP President Ana Pista, APR, said the appointment supports a more accessible organization.

“This is an important step in making the Society more accessible and responsive to practitioners beyond Metro Manila. The expertise and experience of regional communicators deserve a stronger place in our national conversation,” Pista said.

Building skills and strengthening public trust

The Cebu gathering included PRSP’s Professional Development Program, with sessions covering strategic measurement, crisis communication and responsible communication, including artificial intelligence ethics.

The discussions addressed the skills and judgment needed by government and corporate communications professionals as their work continues to evolve.

Later that day, PRSP partnered with MediaQuest Holdings Inc., THINKaMuna Pilipinas and TikTok for the THINKaMuna: Media and Truth Forum at SM Seaside City Cebu’s Cube Wing Atrium.

Students, educators and communications practitioners joined discussions on misinformation, disinformation, responsible information sharing and the role of communication in building public trust.

The activities connected professional development with a broader responsibility: helping communities navigate information and make informed decisions.

Through Isubal-Mongaya’s leadership, PRSP aims to strengthen relationships among Visayas practitioners and give regional perspectives a larger role in the organization’s work. The network forms part of its wider effort to connect public relations professionals across the country and advance ethical practice.
