The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) is reinforcing its defense against online financial crimes through a stronger partnership with GCash, the country’s top finance super app.
The renewed agreement includes the launch of the Cybersecurity and Fintech Handbook and the Scam Assistance Hub (SAH), both aimed at empowering law enforcers and consumers to fight online scams more effectively.
The handbook serves as a learning tool for the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Units. It includes lessons on cybercrime laws, fintech systems, and cryptocurrency. This resource helps police officers understand how digital fraud operates and how to track financial crimes better.
Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang, director of the PNP-ACG, said the initiative strengthens the group’s mission to protect Filipinos in the digital space. He stressed that teamwork between public and private sectors is vital in facing modern cyber threats.
GCash Chief Information and Security Officer Miguel Geronilla said that as financial technology grows, cybercriminals also evolve. He emphasized GCash’s goal to equip law enforcement with real-world fintech knowledge to improve responses against online crimes.
The Scam Assistance Hub introduces a new way for users to report fraud through a QR code. By scanning it, victims can file scam reports and receive help faster. The system also supports GCash’s Express Send Scam Insurance to help victims recover losses.
This digital reporting channel ensures a quicker, more coordinated response between the PNP-ACG and GCash in handling scam-related cases.
These efforts align with the National Cybersecurity Plan 2023–2028 and support the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA), passed in 2024. The law targets online financial crimes like social engineering and money muling.
While the SAH QR code is still being finalized, the PNP-ACG reminds the public to report scams via hotline 1326, the GCash Help Center, or through official social media pages.
The partnership between PNP-ACG and GCash signals a united front against cybercrime, strengthening both enforcement and public awareness to keep the nation’s digital economy safe.
