Sony Interactive Entertainment has introduced the PlayStation Family app, a new mobile tool for parents to manage and monitor their children’s gaming activities. Available starting today on iOS and Android, the app complements the parental controls already on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
The PlayStation Family app provides parents with a centralized way to set boundaries and oversee their child’s gaming experience directly from a smartphone or tablet.
Key features include:
- Guided Onboarding for easy setup of child accounts.
- Real-Time Notifications showing what a child is playing, with instant options to approve or deny requests for more playtime or restricted content.
- Activity Reports offering daily and weekly summaries of playtime and game activity.
- Playtime Management with customizable daily limits and flexibility for children to request additional time.
- Spending Controls to manage wallet balances, add funds, and set monthly spending caps on the PlayStation Store.
- Content Filters with presets for age-appropriate restrictions, plus customizable options.
- Social Interaction Settings to control how children connect and interact online.
Sony emphasized its commitment to safe and balanced play for all ages. “We’re excited to bring an easy way for parents to manage their children’s gaming directly from their mobile devices,” said Cory Gasaway, VP of Product Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The app is free to download on the App Store and Google Play in most regions starting today. It requires iOS 14 or later and Android 8 or later. Sony also confirmed plans to expand features in future updates based on community feedback.
