Free electric rides return with the new Love Bus

The new Love Bus has officially hit the streets of Metro Manila, offering commuters a free, modern, and eco-friendly ride option.

This new version brings back the iconic 1970s service first introduced by former First Lady Imelda Marcos, but with a modern twist. The fleet now consists of compact, fully electric minibuses designed for convenience, safety, and sustainability.

Each new Love Bus has 20 seats, standing space for 10, and dedicated spaces for four wheelchairs. Accessibility ramps and features are also built in, making the buses inclusive for all passengers.

The Department of Transportation, together with Global Electric Transport, operates the service daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Commuters can access the rides by downloading the Love Bus mobile app, available on Android and coming soon to iOS.

Free rides are guaranteed for persons with disabilities and senior citizens throughout the day. Regular commuters can ride for free during peak hours, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. highlighted that the new Love Bus aims to ease travel burdens while addressing traffic and air pollution. He encouraged passengers to take advantage of the free rides until September 30.

“This will help reduce waiting times, cut costs, and lessen pollution since the buses are electric,” Marcos said during the launch.

The initiative blends nostalgia with innovation, reviving a classic transport icon while adapting it to today’s urban needs.
