The World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF-PH) invites Filipinos to celebrate a major milestone for the planet by turning one hour into a lasting habit.

2026 marks the 20th global Earth Hour switch-off—two decades since millions first turned off their lights to signal support for climate action, and what began as a symbolic hour has grown into one of the world’s biggest grassroots movement for the environment. This year, WWF-PH encourages everyone to take that commitment further through the fourth edition of the Earth Hour Virtual Run, happening from March 28 to April 30, 2026.
Open to all ages and fitness levels, participants can walk, jog, or run at their own pace, finishing their goal distance of 10K, 20K, 40K, or 60K. Whether it’s morning laps around the village, post-work treadmill miles, or weekend park runs, each step contributes to a bigger mission.
Last year, the Philippines ranked first globally in the Earth Hour Bank, logging more than 1.3 million hours and creating the #BiggestHourForEarth. Earth Hour Virtual Run builds on that momentum by turning awareness into action: encouraging daily habits that support both personal wellness and environmental responsibility.
“Earth Hour is about building habits that protect our planet,” said Khristine Dee Montenegro, Individual Donor Programs Manager of WWF-PH,. “As we celebrate 20 years of Earth Hour globally, this run reminds us that small, consistent actions—when done together—can create meaningful change for people and nature.”
“Running brings communities together,” added Jeff Lo, Founder of Pinoy Fitness, the event’s official activation partner. “Through the Earth Hour Virtual Run, we’re giving Filipinos a way to move with purpose: to make their steps count for something bigger.”
Proceeds from the run will help support WWF-PH’s environmental conservation programs across the country, contributing to initiatives that protect biodiversity, address climate change, and promote sustainable living.
Two decades after the first switch-off, Earth Hour continues to evolve. This time, the lights go off—and the running shoes go on.
Registration is now open, with early bird rates available until February 28. For more information and registration details, log on to visit https://bit.ly/EHVR2026 or visit WWF-PH’s official social media pages.
