Mapúa pioneers BS AI Engineering degree in the Philippines
Mapúa University has introduced the country’s first Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineering program, opening new doors for Filipino students aiming to build careers in AI-driven industries.

The program is part of Mapúa’s Co-Intelligence strategy, a university-wide plan to integrate AI across its curricula and learning systems. By combining AI tools with human intelligence, creativity, and ethical reasoning, the strategy prepares students to thrive in academic and professional fields.
Senior high school graduates can now apply for the four-year degree, which welcomed its first enrollees this year. The curriculum is structured to build knowledge step by step: foundations in the first year, core AI courses in the second, specialization in the third, and real-world applications in the final year.
Graduates will have access to roles in industries that continue to expand with AI. Career opportunities include:
- AI Engineer
- Machine Learning Specialist
- Robotics Engineer
- AI Solutions Architect
- AI Ethics and Policy Advisor
Industry experts project higher average incomes for AI-related roles, reflecting the global demand for skilled professionals in this field.
The Co-Intelligence strategy goes beyond the new program. AI literacy and tools will be infused into all academic programs, enabling predictive analytics for teaching, AI-powered tutors for personalized learning, and digital assistants to support administrative tasks. These applications allow Mapúans to adapt AI for practical, ethical, and responsible use in education, research, and professional work.
University officials stressed that the initiative highlights human intelligence as the core driver. AI will serve as a collaborative tool, not a replacement. By balancing innovation with ethics, Mapúa positions its graduates at the forefront of opportunities in an AI-augmented world.
