A heartfelt coming-of-age story set during the 1997 IMF financial crisis

Netflix is set to release Typhoon Family on October 11, a moving coming-of-age story led by Korean star Lee Jun-ho.

Set against the backdrop of the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the series follows Tae-poong, a carefree son who suddenly inherits his father’s small business at the height of economic collapse. As he struggles to keep the company afloat, Tae-poong transforms from a reckless young man into a rookie boss, navigating the realities of adulthood while holding on to family ties.

The project highlights Lee Jun-ho in a pivotal role that blends humor, drama and heart. Known for his versatility and acclaimed performances in both music and acting, Jun-ho brings depth to a character facing one of the toughest turning points in modern Korean history.

Netflix describes the series as “a story of survival and growth,” capturing the resilience of a generation tested by hardship.

With over 300 million paid memberships across 190 countries, Netflix continues to bring diverse storytelling to global audiences. Typhoon Family joins its growing slate of Korean content that has found worldwide acclaim.

Typhoon Family premieres October 11, exclusively on Netflix.
