Globe has activated emergency response measures following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck offshore Sarangani province on June 8, prompting tsunami warnings and urgent safety advisories across parts of Southern Mindanao.

According to PHIVOLCS tsunami information, the earthquake occurred offshore Sarangani on June 8, 2026, at 7:37 a.m. Authorities advised residents in affected coastal communities to move to higher ground and remain alert for possible sea level disturbances.

Globe said it is coordinating with local government units, disaster response agencies, and partner organizations to assess the impact on communities and telecommunications infrastructure.

As of Monday afternoon, the company reported network service disruptions across nine provinces, affecting around 30 municipalities. Restoration efforts are ongoing.

Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat were among the most affected areas, with several municipalities experiencing intermittent signal following the earthquake.

Globe said some network sites temporarily lost commercial power after local electric cooperatives shut down services as a safety precaution. These sites are currently using battery backup systems to help maintain connectivity where possible.

“Globe has activated its disaster response protocols even as restoration teams have been mobilized in affected areas,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe.

The company said it continues to monitor network conditions and will work with local authorities and power providers to restore services safely and as quickly as possible.

Globe is also preparing to deploy Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging, and Libreng Wi-Fi services in areas where support may be needed. Deployment will depend on safety clearances from local authorities and ongoing assessments on the ground.

The company said details of activated emergency support sites will be announced through its official channels once conditions allow access to affected communities.

Globe urged customers to prioritize safety, follow guidance from PHIVOLCS, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, and local government authorities, and remain alert for aftershocks and possible sea level disturbances.

The takeaway: Reliable communication is critical during disasters. Globe’s emergency response focuses on restoring affected services while preparing free connectivity support for communities impacted by the Southern Mindanao earthquake.
