GCash has launched Tap to Pay, a new contactless solution that lets Filipinos pay at over 150 million Mastercard merchants worldwide.
The service uses Near Field Communications (NFC) technology and is powered by GCash’s partnership with Alipay+ and Mastercard. Users can pay abroad with their existing GCash wallet, without needing a credit or debit card.
Tap to Pay works on any NFC-enabled Android phone. By simply tapping their phone at Mastercard-accepting POS terminals, users can enjoy fast and secure transactions. This builds on GCash’s QR code payments already available in more than 50 destinations globally.
GCash president and CEO Ren-Ren Reyes said the goal is to create an inclusive, cashless ecosystem that empowers Filipinos with global access.
Douglas Feagin, president of Ant International, added that the collaboration is setting the stage for stronger interoperability between e-wallets and card systems.
With data encryption and authentication protocols, GCash Tap to Pay ensures secure payments for everything from coffee runs to grocery shopping.
The innovation reduces the need for cash or multiple cards, making travel and international spending more seamless for GCash users.
