When it comes to online safety, how would you grade yourself?

Do you click random links? Reuse your MPIN? Or maybe log in from more than one device? If you said yes to any of these — uh oh, time for a refresher.

GCash, the country’s leading finance super app, reminds everyone of one simple but powerful rule: “Basta may link, wag i-click!” It’s a message reiterated by the company’s anti-scam movement that empowers Filipinos to recognize and combat SMS Spoofing Scams by transforming knowledge into lasting habits of protection.

DID YOU KNOW
SMS Spoofing Scams are becoming more sophisticated by the minute, but they still rely on the same triggers to get users to click on links designed to steal personal data. Here are common hooks and tactics of scammers that everyone should keep an eye on.

  • Authority exploitation – Scammers impersonate officials, government institutions, or representatives in an alarming tone about government aid.
  • Emotional manipulation – A strategy where fraudsters use fear, excitement, or greed to cloud judgment and prey on the fear of missing out.
  • Urgency and scarcity pressures – Scammers push victims into hasty decisions with offers that are too good to be true.

PROTECT YOURSELF WITH 3-EASY STEPS
To help everyone score higher in their scam-safety report card, GCash lists down a few “must-dos” for secure transactions:

  1. Update your MPIN regularly — treat it like changing your password, but smarter.
  2. Use biometrics — be more secure with biometrics because unlike MPIN, scammers cannot copy your fingerprint and face register.
  3. Activate “Account Secure” — this keeps your account accessible only on your registered mobile device, keeping you more secure as you continue to practice the habit of avoiding clicking any link.

While scams get more sophisticated, it’s never been easier to stay protected. Following these three simple steps means perfect score ka sa #GSafeTayo Report Card! Stay sharp, stay scam-free, and learn more about protecting your account at www.new.gcash.com
