FedEx Volunteers Plant 2,000 Trees in Sierra Madre to Support Philippines Reforestation During Earth Month

Over 100 FedEx volunteers celebrated Earth Month through a tree planting activity in San Miguel, Bulacan.

Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, marked Earth Month with a community-based tree-planting initiative in the Sierra Madre mountain range, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and reforestation.

On April 11, 2026, more than 100 FedEx volunteers collaborated with the GreenEarth Foundation, to plant 2,000 malunggay (moringa) trees in San Miguel, Bulacan, covering an estimated 5,000-square-meters. Native to the Philippines, the malunggay tree was selected for its resilience, rapid growth, and nutritional and environmental benefits, making it ideal for long-term forest restoration and community livelihood support.

“Environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility,” said Maribeth Espinosa, managing director, FedEx Philippines. “Through volunteering, our team members are helping rebuild forest cover, support biodiversity, and strengthen the natural ecosystem that helps surrounding communities thrive.”

The Philippines continues to face significant deforestation challenges, having lost more than a million hectares of tree cover over the past two decades, increasing pressure on ecosystems and climate resilience.1

Reforestation efforts such as this initiative help restore vegetation, prevent soil degradation, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for surrounding communities.

This initiative is part of FedEx Cares, the company’s global community engagement program that focuses on making the world a better place through in-kind shipping, volunteerism, and charitable giving. Through FedEx Cares, FedEx continues to support initiatives that create positive social and environmental impact across the communities it serves.
