Ethan Hawke Black Phone 2 Brings Back The Grabber for Revenge
Ethan Hawke returns as The Grabber in Black Phone 2, haunting audiences once again as a ghost driven by rage and revenge. The film hits Philippine cinemas on October 15.

Writer-director Scott Derrickson reunites with Hawke after the success of The Black Phone. “I wouldn’t have done it if Ethan was not willing to return,” Derrickson said. “He agreed even before the script, which showed trust. I saw the appeal of bringing back The Grabber as a ghost.”
Set four years after the first film, siblings Finn (Mason Thames) and Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) struggle to rebuild their lives. Gwen begins receiving calls from the black phone in her dreams, seeing visions of boys being stalked at a winter camp called Alpine Lake. The nightmare begins again when they face the vengeful spirit of The Grabber.
Hawke described his return as a study in trauma. “Ghost stories are about the living, not the dead,” he said. “The Grabber represents memories that never fade—regret, anger, fear. He’s the embodiment of horror that refuses to stay buried.”
Derrickson deepens the lore of the villain. “You rarely hear a vengeful ghost speak,” he said. “This time, we learn who The Grabber was and why he returns.”
Co-writer C. Robert Cargill calls this version the most terrifying yet. “He’s pure rage now,” Cargill said. “In death, only the strongest part of someone remains. For The Grabber, that’s hatred. He doesn’t just want revenge. He wants Finn to suffer.”
Black Phone 2 opens October 15 in cinemas nationwide.
