Dey Say Return with “Calling For You (Ringback)” – Africa’s First Boyband In Two Decades Are The New Kids On The Block, Unveiling The Sound Of APop

Africa’s breakout boyband Dey Say are back with their brand-new single, “Calling For You (Ringback)”, a vibrant, feel-good anthem fusing African and Latin rhythms with global pop energy. The release follows the runaway success of their debut single “Calling For You”, which topped 5FM’s Pop Chart at #1 and landed in Heart FM’s Top 20, cementing their arrival as a cultural force in African pop.

Emerging as the first African boyband in nearly twenty years, Dey Say are rewriting the rules of pop culture with a home-grown yet global sound. Born and raised in Johannesburg, the group — Jo (20), Dre (20), Chad (16), and Elim (19) — represent a new generation of African youth defining their own sound and identity.

Their sound, dubbed “APOP” (African Pop), is a bold fusion of smooth harmonies, rhythmic innovation, and modern pop flair — unapologetically African yet universally infectious. With “Calling For You (Ringback)”, Dey Say capture the rush of young love — that magnetic pull that keeps you hitting redial long after the call ends.

“We’ve always admired what K-Pop and J-Pop have done for their cultures — they built worlds, not just songs,” says Elim and Jo of Dey Say. “Now it’s Africa’s turn. We’re so excited for the world to hear our music and to show that APOP can stand on the same global stage while staying true to who we are.” Chad and Dre – Dey Say

Having already captured hearts across TikTok with over 130K followers and over 10 million collective views, Dey Say’s rise from local sensation to national phenomenon has set the stage for their most ambitious chapter yet.

The boys are currently working to conclude their debut EP, set for release in early 2026, featuring some very exciting collaborations as they continue to define their signature sound — APOP (African Pop). Not to be confused with Afropop, APOP is heavily influenced by the world’s most iconic boyband genres such as J-Pop and K-Pop, infused with an unmistakable African flavour.

As part of their wider 2025 campaign, Dey Say will be “reimagining Christmas, Dey Say style,” with brand-new original Christmas songs featured on a special holiday EP dropping in November, along with a surprise festive cover especially for their Filipino fans  a nod to their expanding international audience and the group’s growing global ambitions.

“They’re leading a movement that celebrates African talent with international relevance — the world has never seen a boyband from Africa, and they are cultivating their own lane,” said Quaid Dunn, Co-Founder / A&R Lead. Plus Two Seven

“Dey Say embodies the spirit of a new Africa — bold, creative, and globally connected,” added Jonathan Jules, Co-Founder / Business and Marketing Lead. Plus Two Seven

“Calling For You (Ringback)” releases worldwide on 31 October 2025 via Plus Two Seven.
