Black Phone 2 returns with Ethan Hawke as The Grabber, exploring trauma and vengeance in Philippine cinemas October 15

Evil does not end in death. Black Phone 2 arrives in Philippine cinemas on October 15, continuing the chilling story of The Grabber, played by Ethan Hawke.
The first film, released in 2022, became a modern horror favorite. Director Scott Derrickson drew inspiration from his own childhood memories to create a film that resonated with audiences, especially younger viewers. Teens embraced The Black Phone through streaming and social media, turning it into a cult hit.
For Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill, the sequel was a chance to build on characters shaped by the 1970s and 1980s. “With Black Phone 2, we were able to keep building on characters rooted in our own childhoods,” Cargill said. “That emotional grounding balances horror with heart.”
The sequel brings back survivors Finn (Mason Thames) and Gwen (Madeleine McGraw). Four years after their escape, Gwen begins receiving calls from a black phone in her dreams. She sees visions of three boys stalked at a winter camp. The siblings confront their fears and a more powerful Grabber, who continues to torment from beyond the grave.
Black Phone 2 also continues the theme of trauma. “One of the core themes was children carrying the sins of their father,” Cargill explained. “Finn is numbing himself from the past, falling into the same patterns.” The film asks whether cycles of pain can be broken.
Producer Jason Blum praised the sequel for deepening the mythology while staying true to Joe Hill’s original story. “They’ve balanced horror, emotion and character in a way that feels real,” Blum said.
Black Phone 2 opens in Philippine cinemas on October 15.
