Medialink Group (2230.HK) has officially announced its acquisition of the exclusive distribution rights for the highly anticipated anime adaptation of “You and I Are Polar Opposites” across Greater China, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. This move further strengthens the company’s foothold as a major anime content distributor in the region.
Based on the award-winning manga by Kocha Agasawa, “You and I Are Polar Opposites” is a heart-fluttering high school romantic comedy that has sold over 1.45 million copies globally, including digital editions. Serialized until 2024 on Shueisha’s Jump+ platform, the manga quickly became a fan favorite for its relatable characters, poignant moments, and emotional honesty. The upcoming anime is set to premiere in January 2026.
A Love Story Between Opposites
The story follows Suzuki, a lively girl who tries hard to fit in, and Tani, a reserved and brutally honest boy who couldn’t be more different. What begins as awkward encounters slowly blossoms into something deeper — with all the humor, misunderstandings, and youthful charm you’d expect from a top-tier rom-com.
Voice talents Sayumi Suzushiro (Suzuki) and Shogo Sakata (Tani) headline the cast. In a recently released second trailer unveiled at Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles, fans were treated to poignant monologues from both characters — capturing the emotional tension and inner turmoil that drives their budding relationship.
Cast and Creators Speak Out
Sayumi Suzushiro shared her excitement:
“There were so many things I could relate to with Suzuki. I’m a huge fan of the manga, so getting this role means so much. I hope viewers can reflect on their own feelings through her journey.”
Meanwhile, Shogo Sakata revealed:
“I’ve followed this story since its debut. Tani’s emotional growth is subtle but powerful, and I’m honored to bring that to life.”
The series’ music will be composed by tofubeats, a renowned DJ and producer from Kobe, known for blending pop sensibilities with electronic flair.
“I wanted the soundtrack to lift up the characters and resonate with the teens of today,” said tofubeats. “This was such a fulfilling project to work on.”
