How AXA prevention first outlook guides stronger protection
AXA is redefining how protection works for families and communities. The company’s prevention first outlook is reshaping insurance in a time when climate change, cyber threats, and social tension are rising. AXA’s leaders say the role of insurers is shifting fast because people now face risks that hit harder and faster.

Thomas Buberl, AXA Group CEO, said the insurance model must change. He said insurance helps hold societies together. He also said families suffer behind every claim. He stressed that the real goal is to reduce those losses before they happen. Buberl pointed to major disasters as proof. Communities hit by Hurricane Katrina saw massive destruction. Years later, the same region faced Hurricane Irma with less damage because people were better prepared. He said this shows how prevention works when families understand risk and act early.
AXA wants customers to stay healthy, protect their homes, and prepare better for climate hazards. AXA invests in health programs, workplace safety, and climate resilient infrastructure. Hassan El Shabrawishi, AXA International Markets CEO, said the company has spent years building prevention into real work on the ground. He said AXA pushed clinics, workplace programs, and early action long before other insurers.
Climate action also drives the prevention first outlook. AXA stopped investing in coal and tobacco even before the Paris Agreement. Buberl said the shift was not for image. He said it protected AXA from higher claims. He also said redirecting capital to sustainable industries helps reduce long term losses.
In the Philippines, AXA sees prevention as both a duty and a growth opportunity. Natural hazards remain frequent. Insurance use stays low. El Shabrawishi said the country’s balanced economy and strong long term potential make it a key market. AXA expands access through simple digital insurance via Grab, GCash, Home Credit, and AXA EssentiALL. These reach first time users like informal workers and small business owners. AXA also strengthens its Metrobank partnership to offer more coverage through branches nationwide.
AXA leaders urge governments and communities to work with insurers to lower risks. Buberl said insurance supports development. He said it should not be seen as a burden. He said prevention is a shared responsibility that shapes how people recover and rebuild.
AXA’s 2025 Future Risk Report shows rising threats in climate, cybersecurity, and social divisions. The report guides people and businesses to understand risks and build resilience through prevention.
