Apple is exploring a deal with Google to use its Gemini AI model for the upcoming version of Siri, according to Bloomberg. The talks are still in early stages, with Google reportedly preparing a Gemini model that can run on Apple’s servers.
Apple is also testing two versions of the new Siri:
- Linwood: powered by Apple’s in-house AI models
- Glenwood: powered by external technology like Gemini
A final choice has not been made. Apple might still stick with its own models.
The company has struggled to roll out Apple Intelligence, its suite of AI features launched with iOS 18. While most AI tools shipped, the updated Siri with app integration and personal data handling was delayed until 2026. The setback forced Apple to reshuffle teams and explore third-party AI options.
Gemini now matches many of the features Apple promised for Siri, as seen on Google’s Pixel 10. If adopted, Apple could run Gemini through Private Cloud Compute, ensuring tasks stay on Apple hardware for added privacy.
Apple had already planned to offer Gemini as an option in Apple Intelligence, but that has not materialized. If finalized, the deal would mirror Samsung’s approach, where Galaxy AI runs on both Gemini and custom models.
