Alibaba Cloud fuels AI growth with global expansion and partnerships

Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence arm of Alibaba Group, unveiled bold international expansion plans during its Apsara Conference 2025. The move aims to power next-generation AI applications and strengthen its global cloud infrastructure.

The company will open its first data centers in Brazil, France, and the Netherlands, with more to follow in Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Dubai. Regional service centers in Indonesia and Germany will also provide 24/7 multilingual support. Alibaba Cloud currently manages 91 availability zones across 29 regions.

Dr. Feifei Li, President of International Business, said the expansion meets the rising demand for AI and cloud services. “Our full-stack AI and cloud solutions help businesses design, launch, and scale AI innovations, anywhere in the world,” he added.

To support startups, Alibaba Cloud launched the AI Catalyst Program, offering expert mentorship, tools, and up to USD 120,000 in cloud credits. Selected firms will also gain up to 2 billion free tokens on its Model Studio generative AI platform.

Global collaborations highlight Alibaba Cloud’s growing impact:

  • NVIDIA Partnership: Integrated its Physical AI software stack into Alibaba’s Platform for AI, advancing robotics and Physical AI research.
  • Sports Data Hack Challenge: A European AI hackathon with the International Skating Union and ThinkSport.
  • AstraZeneca China: Built a medical AI tool that improves drug safety reporting with 95% accuracy and 300% efficiency gains.
  • Shiseido: Uses Alibaba Cloud’s AI-driven threat detection to boost security in China.
  • GladCube Japan: Co-developing AI-powered marketing tools like video transformation and AI avatars.
  • FLUX Tokyo: Partnered with Alibaba Tongyi Lab to create a Japanese large language model specialized for finance.
  • Turbo AI: Enhancing operational efficiency and cost performance for regional clients through Alibaba Cloud’s scalable infrastructure.

With these initiatives, Alibaba Cloud positions itself as a driving force in AI adoption, supporting businesses worldwide with resilient, secure, and intelligent infrastructure.
