Aboitiz Foods, the food and agribusiness arm of the Aboitiz Group, exceeded the Philippines’ Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Law plastic recovery targets by over 300% in 2024. The company recovered 326.42% of its rigid plastic footprint and 63.8% of flexible plastics, far above the mandated 40% recovery rate.
The achievement is part of its #everymeal advocacy, which focuses on sustainable sourcing, responsible packaging, and community impact. “Our purpose goes beyond business,” said Annacel Natividad, Chief Risk Officer at Aboitiz Foods. “#everymeal is our ongoing promise to produce food and feed responsibly.”
Packaging reform is central to its strategy. Aboitiz Foods reduced plastic use by 20% through lighter packaging, introduced bulk loading systems, and shifted soybean meal transport from bags to tote bags or direct truck loading. The company also repurposes used packaging into bags, aprons, and other items, engaging both employees and customers in circular economy practices.
In 2024, the company planted 7,600 trees, generated 16.2 million kilowatt-hours of solar energy, produced 10.3 million tons of biomass, and reused or properly disposed of 1,100 metric tons of plastic. These initiatives also saved over USD 165,000 through waste reuse.
Beyond the Philippines, Aboitiz Foods extended its sustainability measures across Asia. In China, its Gold Coin Feed Dongguan team diverted 211 metric tons of packaging waste from landfills, while supporting low-income communities with recycling income.
With the EPR Law’s targets set to rise to 80% by 2028, Aboitiz Foods is reinforcing its role in advancing circular economy practices and reducing plastic pollution. “More than compliance, this progress is about responsibility,” Natividad added.
