Jollibee Group’s Danao Facility Makes History as First Philippine Manufacturing Plant to Receive LEED Gold Certification

• The Danao Commissary earned LEED Gold certification under LEED v4.1 ID+C: Commercial Interiors.
• The facility is the first manufacturing facility in the Philippines to achieve LEED certification for interior design and construction.
• The project achieved 82.1% energy cost savings, 76.95% indoor water use reduction, 99.38% construction waste diversion, and 82.2% renewable energy utilization.

Jollibee Group has earned LEED Gold certification for its Danao Commissary, marking a milestone in the company’s continued efforts to integrate sustainability into its manufacturing operations, and making it the first manufacturing plant to be awarded an LEED certification. 

The facility received Gold certification under the LEED v4.1 Interior Design and Construction (ID+C) Commercial Interiors rating system, across key sustainability concepts, including integrative process, location and transportation, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor air quality, innovation, and regional priority, which contributes to building a healthier, more sustainable future. The project also earned 4 out of 5 innovation points, including exemplary water performance, exemplary waste management, green cleaning practices, and sustainable lighting purchasing. 

LEED is among the world’s most recognized standards for green buildings, serving as a global benchmark for environmental performance across industrial and manufacturing facilities. The Danao Commissary’s LEED Gold certification affirms the strong integration of sustainability into its daily operations and reflects the Jollibee Group’s commitment to corporate responsibility, innovation leadership, and strategic execution. The achievement demonstrates how globally recognized sustainability standards can be seamlessly embedded into the project’s engineering design and manufacturing operations from day one, without compromising productivity, while reinforcing the Group’s long-standing commitment to efficient, environmentally responsible practices across its manufacturing and logistics network.

Advancing sustainable manufacturing

The facility, inaugurated last January, is also the Jollibee Group’s newest and largest manufacturing facility in the Visayas region, further strengthening its supply chain capabilities in support of growth across Visayas and Mindanao.

The Danao facility achieved several measurable sustainability milestones, including an 82% reduction in both projected annual energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, excluding utilities and production equipment. These results were driven by energy-efficient features such as VRF systems, LED lighting, smart controls, an efficient building envelope, enhanced commissioning, and on-site renewable energy systems that supply 82% of the facility’s building energy needs.

In water efficiency, the facility reduced indoor water use for toilet fixtures and lavatories by 77%, supported by high-efficiency fixtures and smart equipment selections. The project also achieved a 99% diversion rate for construction waste through effective waste management practices, on-site material segregation, and partnerships with recyclers and recovery facilities.

Accelerating the Sustainability Journey through Re-application 

The Danao Commissary re-applied more than 30 sustainability initiatives that have already proven effective in the Jollibee Group’s Luzon commissaries. These include VRF applications, variable frequency drives for fan motors and refrigeration compressors, boiler economizers, wastewater systems, solar roof and street lighting, and LED lighting, among others.

It reflects our commitment to building and operating our facilities more responsibly through practical initiatives like energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, and renewable energy use. This milestone builds on the Jollibee Group manufacturing team’s broader sustainability efforts, including its continued shift to renewable energy sources, such as geothermal, to help reduce the environmental impact of its operations.
