Rising Swedish pop act shy martin has released her debut album ‘late night thoughts’ along with an accompanying video for the album’s focus track “wait it out”. The track is the follow up to recent singles “glued to the floor” and “late night thoughts” which have gained a great reaction from press across the globe including Billboard, V Magazine, Stereogum, Consequence, Clash, The Sun and more. shy’s singles leading up to today’s album release have been met with consistent support from BBC Radio 1 and with editorial playlists, including NME’s ‘New Bangers’ and Spotify’s ‘Fresh & Chill’ and ‘Indie Pop’. Speaking about “wait it out”, shy says, “‘wait it out’ was the first song written and produced for the album together with Fanny Hultman and Kerstin Ljungström. I had the line ‘We can just stay here and wait it out’ on my phone when we got to the studio. A person close to me was going through a burnout which is something I’ve experienced up close through more than half my life. The whole song came together really fast just by talking about it. It’s a subject I’ve been wanting to write about for a while.”

shy’s new album ‘late night thoughts’ is her boldest, most openly emotional, brave and beautiful work to date. An album dealing with topics including mental health, recovery, and the search for happiness, late night thoughts presents shy as she’s always wanted to be heard. The album represents an example of pop world-building at its best, creating a fresh realm for fans to enter, as well as a personal reset, the beginning of a new chapter in shy’s life. Speaking about the new album, shy says:

“The process of writing ‘late night thoughts’ started from a cancelled session that ended up with me, Fanny Hultman and Kerstin ljungström writing the first song off the album. I felt right away that the creative space we had together was really special and something I’d been missing for a long time. It reminded me of the feeling I had coming home from school rehearsing and playing around with my band as a teenager. For half a year, we spent lots of time in the studio writing, producing and simply just hanging out. All the songs came together naturally from conversations we had about things I was going through at the time. All the visuals for the album were created by my brother Hampus Hjellström and me in the village where we both grew up with help from our family and friends.”

shy has an esteemed career as a songwriter, having previously written tracks for the likes of The Chainsmokers, Ellie Goulding, Jess Glyne and Astrid S that have seen her amass more than 3 billion streams on Spotify alone. shy is a participating member in Max Martin’s ‘Equalizer Project’ which seeks to further promote and celebrate women in the music industry, while she has also been part of Bebe Rexha’s ‘Women In Harmony’ events.
