Be someone’s hero today. This is the message of LRT-1 operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) for the Christmas season as it transforms Liwasang Bonifacio into a family-friendly Christmas park.
With the theme “Kabayanihan sa Kapaskuhan”, LRMC hosted some 50 children from Hospicio de San Jose and Pangarap Foundation today as it lit up the historical plaza with a 50-foot Christmas tree and a concert of the Top 10 finalists of the Philpop songwriting competition.
The tree is made of steel as well as rubber gaskets and metal shavings from the maintenance work done on the LRT-1 trains. The initiative is in line with LRMC’s local tourism promotion in Metro Manila through ikotMNL, following the recent cleanup and landscaping of the 700-square meter park by LRMC employees and volunteers from Manila and Las Pinas City.
“This yuletide season, LRMC wants to underscore the value of Filipino heroism, and its rich culture and arts as it brings Christmas to Manila,” LRMC President and CEO Juan Alfonso shares. ”We hope to spark heroism in each other and bring hope of peace and fraternity, especially at Christmas time.”
LRT-1 Christmas Train arrives, now on its third year
To complement the Liwasang Bonifacio Christmas Park, the LRT-1 Christmas train was also launched, keeping the spirit of Christmas alive among its passengers amidst the holiday rush.
The train features tourist spots in Metro Manila for shopping, dining, and art hubs where families spend time together during the season.
The Christmas Train started its journey on November 30 and will run for a month. LRMC is bringing back the Christmas Train after its success for the past two years, which garnered positive feedback from passengers and netizens.
