Huawei MatePad 2021: First Impression and Unboxing

In a work from home and online setup, a handy and portable device is badly needed by students and professionals alike. Yes, mobile phones and laptop are already available but there are times that we prefer a device that is capable to somewhat be like both of those worlds. Huawei have been listening to our suggestions as they created a device that gives us portability and bigger real estate, Huawei MatePad 2021, delivers a big space for learning and a device that is good for entertainment and play.

Let us first look at our first impressions about this device.

Inside the box, you could find the main device wrapped in fine paper to help protect the tablet’s body.

As you pull the tab, you will see a charging brick, a type-c cable, a 3.5 mm headphone jack adaptor, and a warranty card. Of course, there is a box containing the typical paperwork and the sim ejector tool, that you should keep safe!

While opening the Huawei MatePad, you could see the sleek and elegant design of the device. With a Midnight Grey color, the matte metallic surface finish is fully appreciated, plus, it doesn’t leave as much fingerprint easily.

At the front, you will see a big size screen of 10.4-inch FHD+ IPS display. It is surrounded by thin size bezels and a 8MP front camera on the side, which is a great feature if you tend to use the device for video calls and meetings.

On the left side of the Huawei MatePad, you would see 2 sets of speakers along with the power button. While on the right side, you will see another set of speakers and the type-c charging port.

At the back portion of the device, there is a single-shooter camera, the Huawei branding, a flash and the microphone.

Here are the specifications for the tech enthusiasts out there.

  • Display: 10.4-inch 2000×1200 IPS, 225 PPI
  • Processor: Huawei Kirin 820 series
  • Memory: RAM – 4GB, ROM – 128GB
  • Camera: 8MP front, 8MP rear
  • Battery: 7250mAh

Overall Thoughts

The Huawei MatePad 2021 is a great choice for students and wfh workers that prefers bigger screens than the regular phone. It is very lightweight and not so much overwhelming to hold, as for portability, I think it can just be tucked inside the bag while on the go.

The initial setup of the device is fast and easy specially if you already have an existing Huawei account. For those who would like to use this device for media consumption, the experience was good so far because of the 2000×1200  IPS display. Plus, the speakers can go as loud as you want because of the 4 set speakers on both side of the device. Overall, the device is actually great for the first impression.
