United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) vice presidential candidate Senator Gregorio “GRINGO’” Honasan II today called on the Filipino electorate to look beyond the personalities of candidates in the coming May elections and instead focus on their platforms for governance.
Honasan, who is celebrating his 68th birthday, made this wish in his morning prayer, which he delivered during the flag raising ceremonies of the Senate at its grounds on Monday morning.
“Help our people to see beyond mere personalities devoid of platforms for governance,”Honasan said.
He said Filipinos should consider the coming May national elections as an opportunity to restore the greatness of the nation and its people.
“Allow the coming political exercise to revive and strengthen our weakened institutions through the restoration of the will of the majority and adherence to the rule of law and due process,” Honasan said.
Honasan urged voters to choose their leaders wisely, and base their choices on proven performance, capacity to sacrifice and hard work, as well as the ability to make difficult decisions for the long term benefit of the country.
“At this time in our nation’s history, grant that the Filipino people and their candidates may transcend anger, hatred, personal motives and vindictiveness,” Honasan said.
He also appealed to the leaders seeking seats in elective posts to value the public trust and privilege that the electorate will entrust to each and every elected public managers and leaders.
