Just last week, the Department of Tourism unveiled a new website during a press event at the Escolta, Manila – the HUB: Make Lab. This goes in line with DOT’s aim to showcase the real beauty of the Philippines and to conserver the country’s natural heritage.
DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat briefly described their latest online stint, saying:
“Our new tourism website, philippines.travel, is a one-stop shop for all your travel needs which includes information on our beautiful destinations to help you plan and book your next trip.”
DOT made sure to be the best legit source of travel needs for everyone who wants to go on a relaxing getaway. To do that, DOT partnered with Guide to the Philippines (www.guidetothephilippines.ph) to integrate an actual travel booking system in the website. Today, people can score deals from over 500 best-value travel products on the new website plus they’ll be able to access Guide to the Philippines’ library of in-depth destination travel guides from there.
With so many scams happening online from selling travel promos that are non-existent, DOT encourages everyone to book DOT-accredited tour operators and tourism establishments only to avoid the hassles.
Revealing more of the new website and partnership, Guide to the Philippines’ General Manager Rabbi Vincent Ang said:
“What’s really exciting is that our country now has an online platform to showcase to the world, not only the popular Philippine destinations but even the lesser-known ones. It’s a true collaboration of local tourism stakeholders, one that’s sure to make traveling to our country a lot easier.”
The new website features 3 main functions such as the See& Do, Where to Go, and the Events & Festival tabs.
The “See & Do” tab holds a collection of six tourism products such as Dive, Nature, Sun and Beach, Adventure, Food and Hospitality, and Events and Culture presented on ten large image-centric carousel banners. Clicking on each banner will take users to available tourist destinations and activities under these categories.
The “Where to Go” tab, on the other hand, lets tourists explore the country through a virtual map that also contains the basic information of the 16 regions and their provinces that are important for travellers to know. The data include routes going there, nearby places to explore, and available accommodations.
Finally, the “Events & Festival” tab guides tourists through dates, locations and routes, and fundamental information about an occasion happening in each province.
President of the Tourism Congress of the Philippines, Jose Clemente III, believes that the website is more than just a guide for people’s next travel stop, but is also a channel where the government and business owners come together to come up with better tourism services. He said:
“The new website does not only provide accessibility for tourists with its travel guide, but it symbolizes how the government and the business sector can help one another to provide better services for our people.”
