Choosing a Career in the Movie Industry

0

Do you have big dreams of pursuing a career in the movie and film industry? Many people dream of becoming a famous actor, director or producer like Heather Parry, but may have false preconceptions about what it takes to make it to the top, much less to simply make ends meet in this business. If you want to set yourself up for a stable and fulfilling career in TV and movies, consider these three steps to help you start your journey.

Get the Training You Need

There is so much to learn about the way things work in entertainment, both in front of and behind the camera. Most major colleges and universities offer degrees in entertainment related fields. In addition, participate in any relevant classes or workshops you can to help you better prepare for auditions and applications.

Be Willing to Work Your Way Up

You have to be able to prove yourself in smaller roles and positions before you can make it onto bigger projects and productions. Sometimes, that may mean taking any job you can to simply get on set and get your name out there. One of the best ways to prove yourself and make the right connections is to take any job that gets you relevant experience. You may start out as an assistant making coffee runs, but a willingness to work hard on small tasks can go a long way.

Grow Your Creative Talents

The entertainment industry is always changing. It’s important not to make yourself a “one trick pony” and limit your marketability. Many parts and pieces of creating a production are very interconnected, so learn to excel in more than one area to earn more opportunities.

While there are rare cases when a surprising talent captures the attention of the right people and lands a big break, these situations are far less common than you might think. Set yourself up for success through education and hard work.
