A Mother’s Endless Love and Appreciation

Sun Life launches “KAAKBAY” stories of life partners. Can’t help myself to think about my own life partner.

Growing up people around me, especially my family and friends, set a high standard for me. They were expecting me to always be on top of my game. Whether it be in academics, sports or in my other extra-curricular activities.

Through all those expectations one person stuck with me in times of triumph and disappointment. My mom has always been there for me. She made sure she’s always there for me during my highest of high to my lowest of low.

My mom and I made sure to spend a few hours every night to catch up on each other’s day. I knew her frustrations, simple joys, mischiefs, and mishaps, as she knew all of mine.

For most of my life, she was my “knight in shining armor”. I didn’t long to find a boyfriend because I didn’t see the need to have one. She showed me how to be happy and complete on my own. She also taught me to be happy when the people I love are doing good.

Mama was my superhero and role model. She showed me how to take care of the people I love by taking care of us. She made sure that our future is secured. I vividly remember during my elementary days I would see my mom and dad talk to different insurance agents trying to see which will be most beneficial for us. My parents, especially mama, made sure that we’ll be able to finish school without worrying about our finances.

She wasn’t just a great mother she was also a loving grandmother. Mama was the one who initiated to have a bank account opened for our daughter.

Even in her passing, mama didn’t want us to worry about anything because she had her burial plan when I was still a toddler. I remember her telling me “patay na nga ako iisispin n’yo pa ba ang burol at paglilibing sa’kin”.

And now that I have a daughter of my own, I wish to follow in her footsteps. Mama taught me how to take care for my family, especially for our daughter, not only in the present but most especially for their future by securing it through investment and having our own insurance policy.

It was mama’s compassion, selflessness, unconditional love and generosity that made her the best in every role she plays may it be as a daughter, sibling, wife, mother and as a grandmother to our only daughter.
