Singer-songwriter and producer Shye has released her frst single of the year, “safe”. A song about fnding refuge in one’s community, Shye continues to refne her artistry as she plays with ambient sounds and diferent textures in the track. Fans can stream the single here.
Shye explains, “I think it can get pretty crazy out there and sometimes it can be hard to fnd people that you can be at ease with. I personally still struggle with that. So I wanted to write a song about the way it feels to be around people and more specifcally, being around people you trust and feel safe with. The song is essentially also about wanting them to feel the same way you do when they’re in your company, hence the lyrics, ‘Around me, when you’re in my company, I hope I can make you feel the same way I do’.“
The melancholic track follows last year’s EP ‘idk it’s complicated’. The EP saw Shye revisit her bedroom pop sound, touching on the complications of dealing with crushes and friendships, and fnding the sweet spot where you feel you belong.
