realme 9 Pro 5G: The perfect mid-range phone

Last year, realme set out to make 5G connectivity more accessible to more people. The new goal is to build more exquisite phones with performance to match, after exceeding expectations with their previous releases and chart-topping sales.

With the official introduction of the new realme 9 Pro and Pro + in the Philippines, people are wondering which smartphone is fit for them. This series promises to give lightning-fast speed, ultra-smooth display, and well-detailed visuals, even in low-light situations. Let’s focus on the realme 9 Pro variant and see if the phone is capable of achieving its full potential without getting the Pro + variant?

Here are 5 things you would love about the realme 9 Pro.

New Light Shift Design

The realme 9 Pro features the brand’s “Light Shift” design language, which adds a subtle beauty to the phone that earlier models lacked. The Aurora Green hue we have for review is stunning without being overpowering, and realme nailed the Northern Lights-like impression they were targeting.

The styles and layouts of the realme 9 Pro series are identical. In the back, there’s a discrete camera island with a significant camera bump, curved corners for improved ergonomics. The sides of the phone, have a matte-like finish that is made from plastic but imitates an anodized aluminum. The phone’s matte-like surface also provides a lot of grip, making it comfortable to handle. The volume rocker is conveniently located on the left side, while the power button, which also functions as a fingerprint scanner, is conveniently located on the right side.

The realme 9 Pro is on the heavier side at 195g, 8.5mm thick, and with its 6.6-inch screen due to the differences in components.

Faster Refresh rate and performance

The realme 9 Pro has a 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2412 x 1080px and a pixel density of 400ppi. Unlike the 9 Pro Plus, realme chose a higher refresh rate over a 90Hz AMOLED, therefore this IPS panel can support up to 120Hz refresh rates. You can choose between a high refresh rate, a 60Hz refresh rate, or auto-select to achieve a balance between performance and battery life.

The realme 9 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G (6nm) CPU with an Adreno 619 GPU. It comes with 8GB of RAM.

When it comes to performance, the phone excels in everyday tasks such as online browsing, heavy social media use, and video viewing, and it can handle graphically intensive games with ease in its default settings.

Fast Charging

The battery life is excellent, and it is noticeably better than that of the realme 8s 5G and realme 8 Pro. The large 5,000 mAh battery should also be credited. If you’re a conservative 5G user or just a casual gamer, this means the gadget can last an entire day before needing to be charged. The realme 9 Pro employs the same DartCharge 33W charging technology as the realme 8s 5G from last year; it’s a budget solution that realme doesn’t go into much information about.

Beautiful Nightscape Camera

Except for the inclusion of the ultrawide camera, the camera arrangement hasn’t altered much from the realme 8s 5G. The 64MP f/1.8 primary camera, as well as the 2MP f/2.4 dedicated macro unit, are retained in the 9 Pro, while the 2MP depth sensor is replaced with an actually useable 8MP f/2.2 camera with an ultrawide lens. We have a 16MP f/2.5 camera on the front.

The device’s photo contrast is strong, the dynamic range is wide, and the details are fine, albeit post-processing may be required to tone down the excessive sharpness. Colors aren’t always accurate, but that’s something that a software update might easily solve.

The low-light pictures are really impressive. It comes with multiple night mode photos, such as the neon light trail, which shoots excellent long exposure shots despite the lack of OIS or even a tripod, just like the Plus edition.

Customizable OS

The realme 9 Pro, like the Plus variant, comes with Realme UI 3.0, which is based on Android 12. This means it has the same design as Realme UI 2.0, but with more customizations, smoother transitions, and other improvements. Realme picked up where they left off and built on it, which is exactly how it should be.

On the recent apps tab, you’ll see multitasking options. You can activate floating windows, which allow you to keep compatible programs open in a smaller window while you work on something else. You may also utilize the split-screen mode to run both programs simultaneously.

Verdict

The realme 9 Pro is certainly one of the most feature-rich Android phones available at this price point. It boasts a beautiful and comfortable design, a spacious and smooth display, exceptional performance, a good set of cameras, a long battery life, and, of course, 5G connectivity.

The official price of the realme 9 Pro is Php16,990.
