Orient Star has introduced a new Diver 1964 1st Edition model to its Sports Collection limited to 900 pieces worldwide. Created in 1951, Orient Star has dedicated itself to producing highquality, made-in-Japan mechanical watches, that are “shining stars” fusing traditional craftsmanship with the latest watchmaking technologies. The new limited-edition model reflects this proud history, reproducing the original design of the Olympia Calendar Diver*1 model released in 1964, with an upgrade to contemporary scuba divers’ watch specifications of 200metre water resistance in compliance with the ISO 6425 standard. This exceptional model features the same silver dial as the original and combines vintage design with Orient Star’s latest high-performance in-house movement.
With sporty and relaxed styling gaining popularity across generations, divers’ watches and vintage designs have become a worldwide trend. The Diver 1964 1st Edition launched in 2021 for Orient Star’s 70th anniversary, attracted attention from launch and soon became popular all over the world. This new version with a silver dial is the latest model in the lineup.
The Diver 1964 1st Edition is based on the Olympia Calendar Diver launched after several years of development work that began in the early 1960s. The new model reproduces the same features of the original: a rotating bezel made of solid stainless steel, three-dimensionally cut indices, an arrow-shaped hand, and a case shape with sharp lugs.
The Olympia Calendar Diver was available in black or silver dials, with the latter now extremely rare and only a few original pieces in existence. The new model is a reproduction of the silver version. The metallic feel of the silver dial gives this divers’ watch a dressier look, and yet the contemporary design makes it ideal for sports as well as everyday use.
The case is made of high-quality stainless steel (SUS316L) and features a screw down crown, a screw case-back, and sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. It offers significantly improved water resistance to 200 metres for scuba diving, compliant with the ISO 6425 standard for divers’ watches – a significant improvement from the original model’s 40 meters*1. The metal bracelet made from the same high-quality stainless steel provides substantial presence and optimum comfort. The trifold clasp comes with push button, security latch and divers’ extension, making the watch practical to use for sports activities and urban lifestyles.
The hand-wound movement of the original 1964 model has been replaced with a contemporary automatic movement, an in-house caliber F6N47 that provides stable high accuracy and a 50-hour power reserve. Another new feature is the indicator showing the power reserve’s remaining running time. Although, most Orient Star models come with a power reserve indicator as standard*2, it is rare to find this feature on divers’ watches.
