In a significant move towards enhancing accessibility and promoting electric vehicles (EVs) nationwide, Movem Electric Inc., the green mobility subsidiary of the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has successfully installed a cutting-edge EV charging station in a prominent Makati City high-rise building. This latest development underscores their commitment to advancing sustainable transportation solutions.
Movem Electric Inc. recently announced the deployment of a 22-kilowatt type 2 charger, designed to accommodate various brands of four-wheeled electric vehicles, within the Pacific Star building. This strategic partnership with Century Properties Management Inc. reflects Movem and Meralco’s dedication to supporting the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act. Together, they aim to provide comprehensive EV and charging infrastructure solutions to institutional customers and the general public.
The Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act, officially known as Republic Act No. 11697, mandates industrial and commercial companies, government agencies, and government-owned and -controlled corporations to incorporate EVs into 5 percent of their total fleet. As part of their mission, the Department of Energy (DOE) plans to elevate this target to 10 percent, contributing to the broader objectives of vehicle electrification and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel dependence. Looking further into the future, the DOE envisions a remarkable 50 percent EV fleet by 2040.
Movem Electric Inc., established in March of this year, specializes in managing equipment and vehicles for transport service networks powered by electric energy and other sustainable energy sources.
