19 year-old R&B artist Keyana is releasing her first single of 2023 titled “Shelter From The Rain”, a track inspired by the idea of being heartbroken in the rain. “I wrote a song that best described what being in the pits of heartbreak feels like. Absolute, vulnerable and slightly dramatic.”
On the meaning behind the song, Keyana explains, “This melancholic melody was birthed during my darkest hour of self-destruction, where I found myself reflecting on the insecurities of my romantic entanglements. It’s a heart-wrenching tribute to all the lost souls who once graced my life. The lyrics are raw and sincere, delving deep into themes of loneliness, isolation, and the unending quest for a sense of belonging within myself, amidst my recurring bouts of love gone awry.”
“As an artist, both the visual and sonic aspects of my craft hold equal importance to me – I intend to convey a vivid visual experience, accompanied by an emotional sonic journey,” she continues. On this song, Keyana worked with esteemed Singapore-based producer Fauxe to create the lush soundscape that fans can confidently associate with Keyana and the music that’s to come. The release of “Shelter From The Rain” marks the beginning of an emotional expedition that she is embarking on this year, the first insight into her creative journey that will unfold over the next few months.
Keyana released her previous single “Afterglow” in 2021, following her debut singles “Save It” and “SCORPIO”. Her notable performances include the Esplanade’s Baybeats Festival 2021 and opening for Moonchild and Charlie Lim and The Mothership. A multi-disciplinary artist, she has worked with both regional and international brands – from Glamour South Africa, Pedro, Gojek, Charles & Keith, to Simmons Korea, and featured on publications such as Vogue Singapore, South China Morning Post, Next Shark, Female Singapore, Her World, NME Asia, and more.
