The wellness industry in the Philippines is valued at $41 billion and described as “thriving,” according to the latest report of the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), a nonprofit dedicated to research and education in the sector.
Based on GWI data, the Philippines ranks 8th among countries in the Asia Pacific region and 22nd out of 218 countries globally.
Acknowledging what the GWI saw as “tremendous potential for development” of the industry in the Philippines, Jal Yoga expanded its footprint to the country with the recent opening of a new studio in Muntinlupa.
“Jal means water in Hindi,” said Mr. Pardeep Fogat, one of the studio’s founders and an accredited yogi. “Like the water that adapts to any form, we aim to guide interested and wellness-conscious Filipinos in their journey and to live more with Jal.”
Established in 2018 in Singapore, Jal Yoga has since opened six studios there, three in Malaysia, one each in Indonesia and Dubai, and the most recent at the ground floor of One Trium Tower in Alabang.
Jal Yoga’s founders Mr. Fogat and Ms. Jasmine Loh were present at the studio opening and are currently staying in the Philippines to train its teachers and instructors.
“It is remarkable how so many Filipinos now recognize the importance of wellness, pursuing more physical activities like running and biking which have been proven to have a positive impact on mental wellness,” said Ms. Loh, a veteran marketing professional who lives by the health improvements brought by dedicated yoga practice.
She added that the studio in Alabang has state-of-the-art infrared heat panels “for the perfect and comfortable temperature to conduct the various Yoga, Pilates, and Barre classes.”
“The infrared panels radiate therapeutic infrared rays which help weight loss, blood circulation, improve skin and hair, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles,” said Ms. Loh.
Aside from utilizing technology for wellness, the founders are also dedicated to ensuring the instructors in their Alabang studio are well-equipped with world-class expertise in the several Yoga, Barre, and Pilates classes offered.
“No matter the age, fitness background, or body type, we are inviting Filipinos to try Yoga, Barre, or Pilates at Jal Yoga. Beginners will especially feel after one or two sessions the difference of infrared tech and how easy it makes the whole experience,” said Mr. Fogat.
