New album Mahashmashana Out Friday, November 22nd Worldwide From Sub Pop
Today, Josh Tillman shares Father John Misty’s “She Cleans Up,” a new single from Mahashmashana, his forthcoming new album. Father John Misty’s Mahashmashana, produced by himself and Drew Erickson, and executive produced by Jonathan Wilson, will be out Friday, November 22nd, 2024 worldwide from Sub Pop.
Mahashmashana features 8 songs across 50 minutes and includes “Screamland” and the aforementioned “She Cleans Up,” along with “Josh Tillman and The Accidental Dose.” The latter two were mixed by BJ Burton.
Mahāśmaśāna (महामशान)— great cremation ground, all things put going thither.
Mashashmashana standout “I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All,” which was released in August with Father John Misty’s Greatish Hits… compilation, has earned praise from Pitchfork (“26 Contenders for Song of the Summer”) and Esquire (“25 Best Songs of 2024, So Far”).
He also released “Screamland,” a 7-minute epic that features Alan Sparhawk from Low on guitar. The Guardian offers this, “A 7-minute epic which toggles between forlorn verses and a raging chorus, it’s Misty’s most ambitious song yet.” Rolling Stone called it “an awesome 7-minute scorcher,” and PASTE said, “‘Screamland’ packs punch after punch, offering some of Tillman’s strongest line-work in years…”
Father John Misty is also announcing a new headlining tour for 2025 in support of Mahashmashana, which begins Wednesday, February 12th in Chattanooga, TN at The Signal, and runs through Saturday, March 1st in Washington, DC at the Anthem. For the February 13th through March 1st run, the tour will feature special guest and Merge Records artist Destroyer. A special fan presale begins Wednesday, October 16th at 10 am local time, with tickets on sale to the general public on Friday, October 18th (@10 am local).
